WHEN AND WHERE? – EXACT TIMING AND POSITIONING MATTERS!
THE MOST INNOVATIVE PNT DOWNSTREAM APPLICATION LEVERAGING EGNSS DIFFERENTIATORS
Nowadays, the need for positioning and timing information is still expected to progress rapidly, with ever more stringent positioning requirements in terms of robustness and reliability, and consequently security and integrity, extended seamless availability (e.g. for cities and constrained environments, through to indoors), increased accuracy, and so on. At the same time, user equipment often needs to be miniaturised, and its power consumption and cost decreased. At the level of the application, EGNSS will also have to be combined with other GNSSs, use several frequencies, be hybridised with many other sensors from inertial sensors and magnetometers to radars and cameras, and prepared to use signals of opportunity.
When and where? – Exact timing and positioning matters!
Within the challenge, we are looking for ideas for innovative EGNSS downstream applications with clear market uptake perspectives that will leverage EGNSS differentiators, such as:
- Multiple-frequencies E1, E5 and E6
- Galileo-specific signal modulation, e.g. AltBOC
- Galileo Search and Rescue Service
- High precision and authentication services that will be provided by Galileo, i.e. within the Commercial Service and within the Open Service authentication (OS NMA)
The ideas could be related (but are not limited) to all market segments, including solutions for location-based services (LBS) and the Internet of Things (IoT), smart mobility and smart cities, aviation and drones, waterborne applications, search and rescue and crisis management.
The GSA will award the three best ideas. The prizes are:
- 1st place: EUR 7,000
- 2nd place: EUR 5,000
- 3rd place: EUR 3,000
In addition, the winning idea will benefit from extensive promotion through the GSA’s many marketing channels and at relevant industry events and can get access to tailored E-GNSS Accelerator business support worth EUR 62,000 (if eligible).
An extra EUR 10,000 cash prize will be allocated to the ESNC 2018 Overall Winner.
The GSA is looking for the brightest ideas that use European GNSS (Galileo and EGNOS) to help foster innovative applications in different market segments. In line with European ideals, potential applications could address, for example, solutions for location-based services (LBS) and the Internet of Things (IoT), smart mobility and smart cities, aviation and drones, waterborne applications, search and rescue and crisis management.
All proposals must use European GNSS as the primary means of positioning. Moreover, all ideas should be technically operational, innovative, demonstrate market potential and contribute to the adoption of Galileo. Proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Innovative approach over existing solutions
- Commercial feasibility
- Use of European GNSS differentiators
- Contribution to the market uptake of Galileo
- Technical/operational feasibility, including maturity of the idea
- Demonstrations/market trials for technology validation
