With a surface area of 32,107 square metres at the North-East of Spain, Catalonia has a very diverse and divided orography, with extensive mountain ranges mirroring the coastline, inland depressions, mountain peaks reaching 3,000 metres high in the Pyrenees, and just 240 metres to the south is a delta that collects the sediments from one of the most abundant rivers of the Iberian peninsula: the Ebre.

ACC1Ó is the agency set up by the Catalan Government to make Catalan enterprise more competitive throughout the world. Its key aims are to drive innovation, internationalisation and attract inward investment.

ACC1Ó is based in Barcelona with an international network of a further 35 Business Promotion Centres covering some 70 markets worldwide. It provides advice and practical help for businesses with a vocation to expand worldwide. It focuses on attracting inward investment into Catalonia and also works on synergies between R+D+i areas and business.

The Aerospace Research & Technology Centre, CTAE, is a non-profit private foundation set up in 2005 in the region of Catalonia (Spain) aiming to enhance industrial competitiveness and promote innovation. CTAE offers access to experienced researchers and laboratories; international university-industry cooperation, technology transfer, fundraising, project management, quality assurance, intellectual property. CTAE achieves industry advancement by promoting university-industry collaboration, technology transfer with other sectors, as well as transregional and transnational partnerships.

The CTAE Navigation and Communications group supports the development of applications that require knowing the position of mobile units. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), such as GPS and GALILEO, have already become a standard for a wide range of applications spanning many domains: transport and logistics, land surveying, agriculture, fisheries, tourism and leisure. Emerging techniques using wireless networks for localization are able to provide location information where GNSS signals are unavailable. CTAE is engaged in active research in such techniques, and conducts projects with external partners to help bring these innovations into use.

Starting in 2010, CTAE operates the CEL - Centre of Excellence in Localisation (Centre d'Excel·lència de Localització) - and through CEL provides incubation services, access to test infrastructures, and in-house expertise in the technology, theory, applications of GNSS. CEL fosters the development of highly added value and innovative applications using satellite navigation and positioning systems for Location Based Services, Intelligent Transports Systems, Aeronautics and Maritime markets.
