Bulgaria is a country located in southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Romania to the north, Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia to the west, Greece and Turkey to the south, and the Black Sea to the east. With a territory of 110,994 square kilometres, Bulgaria ranks as Europe's 14th-largest country. Its location has defined Bulgaria as a historical crossroads for various civilisations, and as such, it is the home of some of the world's most ancient cultural artefacts. Bulgaria became the sixth country in the world to have an astronaut in space with Georgi Ivanov's flight on Soyuz 33 in 1979. It has deployed its own experiments on various missions, such as RADOM-7 dosimeters on the International Space Station and Chandrayaan-1, as well as space greenhouses (a Bulgarian invention) on the Mir space station. In 2011, the Bulgarian government announced plans to reboot the country's space programme by producing a new microsatellite and joining the European Space Agency. Bulgaria hosts two major astronomical observatories: the Rozhen Observatory, the largest in southeastern Europe; and the Belogradchik Observatory with its three telescopes, as well as several public astronomical observatories with planetariums focused on educational and outreach activities.

The Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) dates back to 1890 and is the oldest chamber in Bulgaria. It enjoys a reputation for delivering high-quality business services on a local, national, and international basis. Membership in RCCI is voluntary and its member-companies represent all the key sectors of the regional economy. They also reflect the economic diversity of the Ruse region and include a full range of large, small, and medium-sized companies in the production, trade, and services sectors, as well as other non-government business support organisations. The Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry might be described as "mid-Atlantic" - that is, it has adopted features of both continental European chambers, which focus on business and trade activities; and American chambers, which focus on the economic development of their cities.

Therefore, the principle activities of the Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry are:

• Promoting the economic development of the Ruse region
• Lobbying local and central government and other public authorities to promote an understanding of the role and needs of business
• Providing a wide range of services to member and non-member companies to help develop their businesses both in Bulgaria and abroad

BIC Innobridge is a virtual business incubator recently created by the Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The centre assists entrepreneurs in developing and internationalising their ideas and provides its services to entrepreneurs from the Romania-Bulgaria border area in partnership with local stakeholders (academic society, local/regional government, and business).
In 2012, Innobridge was the first BIC from Bulgaria to become a full member in the European Business & Innovation Centre Network (EBN).
