Last Call: T-Systems and ESA Want Your Green Business Ideas for Earth Observation Data and Satellite Navigation
Oberpfaffenhofen, 19 July 2010: T-Systems, under the patronage of the European Space Agency (ESA), award the GMES Masters prize for the best idea in line with the international innovation contest "European Satellite Navigation Competition 2010". Companies and innovators anywhere in the world are welcome to participate. The two organisations are looking for business models for the European Earth observation programme (GMES), in a GMES core service area - land, marine, or emergency. The corresponding applications should be based on dynamic earth-observation data and global satellite navigation systems, and utilise space- and ground-based communications infrastructures. The portal for submitting ideas will be open at https://esnc.galileo-masters.com until July 31, 2010.
In addition to the T-Systems special topic prize, participants have the opportunity to compete for one of 23 regional prizes, as well as for the competition's grand prize of €20,000. The winner will be recognised at an awards ceremony to be held at the Munich Residenz on October 18, 2010.

The role of ESA and T-Systems in the GMES programme
The European Space Agency (ESA) is the Coordinator of the GMES Space Component within the E.U.-led GMES Programme. ESA also serves as the development and procurement agency for the GMES space infrastructure; this includes the development of the Sentinel missions and the related Ground Segment infrastructure, as well as the procurement of the re-current items. In addition, ESA is the ad interim operator of the Sentinel 1, 2, and 3 (land) missions.
T-Systems operates information and communication technology for multinational corporations and public institutions. For example, the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary develops, integrates, installs and runs the main components of Toll Collect's core system for the world's first satellite-based road-charging system. Furthermore, T-Systems is responsible for a global network through which GMES data is distributed to users around the world.

About the European Satellite Navigation Competition
The European Satellite Navigation Competition is an international innovation contest that awards the best ideas for applications in satellite navigation. The competition has been organised by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO) since 2004 and is oriented toward companies, entrepreneurs, research institutes, universities and private individuals. As part of the competition, AZO has established a network that has since expanded to 23 regions worldwide. The network connects technology hubs and companies that boast some of the most important players in the fields of incubation, prototype and product development, market development, and idea management for applications related to satellite navigation. Meanwhile, aerospace clusters and other regional initiatives involved in the network give entrepreneurs crucial access to potential partners and investors.
The ESNC intends to further strengthen international collaboration among the partner regions, particular with regard to the development of applications and services made possible by Galileo, Europe's satellite navigation system. The competition is held under the patronage of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology and is supported by the European BIC Network (EBN).
