Galileo-EGNOS Prize Award Scheme (GEPAS)

The Galileo-EGNOS Prize Award Scheme (GEPAS) builds on the existing and established infrastructure of the European Satellite Navigation Competition. Through GEPAS, the European Commission supports the extension of the ESNC's overall prize pool in order to increase the number and quality of ideas submitted and boost the rate of those successfully brought to market in the form of new products and services. The common goal of the ESNC and the European Commission is to drive the commercialisation of GNSS applications and create new businesses and jobs in Europe. GEPAS also enables the European Commission to support the ESNC's European partner regions and sponsors in awarding more attractive prizes. The services provided may include, for instance, incubation programmes, technical consulting, business coaching, patent consulting, marketing services, prototype development, the use of testing facilities, and prize money. The extended support shall contribute to higher success rates regarding the implementation of the awarded ideas. Thanks to the lower cost of entry made possible by European Commission funding, new European partner regions have joined the ESNC and been able to make their regional activities more visible in the GNSS industry and the corresponding global network.

19 beneficiaries have joined the EU-funded project since its start in 2011, which is coordinated by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO). The consortium consists of the ESNC regional partners from Catalonia/Spain, Gipuzkoa/Spain, Lithuania, Lombardy/Italy, the Czech Republic, Øresund/Denmark and Sweden, South Holland/Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Austria, Bulgaria, Ireland, Nice Sophia Antipolis/France, Portugal, and Flanders/Belgium. Further beneficiaries include the German Aerospace Center (DLR) as a special prize partner, and Digital Spaces Living Lab, New Tools for Health, Integrative Usage Lab, and Interaction Design and Communication Technologies as partners of the GNSS Living Lab Prize.

GEPAS is funded by the European Commission.
