Lithuania
Situated on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea, Lithuania has a rich history and unique traditions,
the oldest university in eastern Europe, a highly educated workforce (40 per cent with higher education), the highest
mobile-phone penetration, and some of the densest broadband internet coverage in Europe. The country promotes R&D in
biotechnologies, mechatronics, lasers, information and telecommunication technologies, nanotechnologies, and electronics.
The National Space Association of Lithuania was established to promote and support education, R&D, innovation, and other
public activities in space-related fields. The organisation also seeks to achieve favourable conditions for actors in these
fields, thus enabling them to serve business and governmental institutions as experts on space-related (and many other)
issues. Though it is young, the Association is supremely dedicated its goal of enhancing Lithuania’s science and business
competitiveness in Europe and the rest of the world.
