INITIATOR OF THE EUROPEAN SATELLITE NAVIGATION COMPETITION 2010
Initiator of the European Satellite Navigation Competition 2010 is the Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen.

PATRONAGE
The European Satellite Navigation Competition 2010 is being held under the patronage of the Bavarian Ministry of Economics, Transport, Infrastructure and Technology.

SUBJECT MATTER OF THE COMPETITION
With the European Satellite Navigation Competition 2010, the initiators intend to gather ideas / solutions for commercial applications of satellite navigation and promote individual ideas by offering prizes.

RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE
Enterprises, scientific institutions, and individuals of legal adult age are entitled to participate in the European Satellite Navigation Competition 2010.

SUBMISSION PERIOD OF THE EUROPEAN SATELLITE NAVIGATION COMPETITION 2010
You are requested to electronically submit your contributions and ideas / solutions from May 1st, 2010 until 12:00 p.m. CET on July 31st, 2010 (refer to the procedure described below).

PROCEDURE
The execution and handling of the competition will be exclusively in English and via the Internet. You can therefore only enter your ideas / solutions in English via the Internet using the entry form at the web address www.galileo-masters.eu. You may temporarily save and process the content and statements for your idea on the server until they have the desired form.
Upon logging in, you must choose a password for accessing your saved data (your account).
Prior to setting your password, you must maintain specific personal data that will be electronically stored, used and processed in carrying out the competition and awarding the prizes.

After logging in, you must select a region for your idea / solution; that region's expert team will review your idea. There will be one expert panel each in Aquitaine / France, Arab Middle East & North Africa (MENA), Australia, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Brazil, Gipuzkoa, Hesse, Israel, Lithuania, Lombardy, Madrid, Nice-Sophia Antipolis, Niedersachsen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Øresund, Prague, South Holland, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom & Ireland, the USA and Valencia. As such, the regions available for selection will be Aquitaine / France, Arab Middle East & North Africa (MENA), Australia, Baden-Württemberg / Germany, Bavaria / Germany, Brazil, Gipuzkoa / Spain, Hessen / Germany, Israel, Lithuania, Lombardy / Italy, Madrid / Spain, Nice-Sophia Antipolis / France, Niedersachsen / Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia / Germany, Øresund / Denmark & Sweden, Prague / Czech Republic, South Holland / The Netherlands, Switzerland, Taipei / Taiwan, the United Kingdom & Ireland, USA and Valencia / Spain.

You may enter more than one idea (= different new solutions), but you are not allowed to enter the same idea in different regions or for different special topic prizes. However if you wish to enter more than one idea, you will need to set up a separate profile for each idea and complete the whole entry form for each of your ideas.

You must submit your idea / solution and fill out the mandatory data and fields in the database no later than 12.00 p.m. CET on July 31st, 2010. Only those ideas / solutions that contain all the mandatory information will be considered. Your idea / solution will then be submitted to the expert panel of your chosen region and, if chosen, to the expert panel of the respective special topic sponsor. All experts assigned with the evaluation of the submitted ideas must commit to a non-disclosure agreement before the ideas are put forward for evaluation. This non-disclosure agreement will be concluded between Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen and each of the experts.

The evaluation of the ideas is an anonymous process. Each idea will receive its own identification number. During the evaluation process the experts are only able to see this ID. However some regions or special topic sponsors may invite a small number of finalists to deliver a personal pitch. If you are invited to present your idea to the experts personally, your identity will obviously be disclosed. However at this stage you will already be nominated as a finalist.

With your participation, you agree that your contact details will be passed to the regional partner of the region in which you have registered your idea and, if chosen, to the respective special topic sponsor after the database has been closed and the winners chosen. That partner/sponsor may contact you to determine whether you are interested in moving forward with your idea.

SPECIAL TOPIC PRIZES
Participants in the European Satellite Navigation Competition 2010 also have the option of competing for eight special topic prizes sponsored by industry and research partners. After logging in, you can also decide whether you would like to also enter your idea / solution for one of the special topic prizes awarded by the following companies / institutions: the European GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA), T-Systems, the European Space Agency (ESA), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), NAVTEQ, SatNav MIT BW, the FP7 project GAINS and Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen.

These prizes will be awarded independently of participation in a partner region of the European Satellite Navigation Competition 2010. The expert teams working at the regional level on behalf of the European Satellite Navigation Competition 2010 will receive no indication as to whether any participant is also competing for one of the special topic prizes. Each of these partner organisations will have their own expert team to evaluate the ideas / solutions submitted for one of the special topic prizes.
Each prize will be awarded to an idea for a solution or application based on its usefulness in completing certain tasks devised by AZO and the respective industry or research partner. The industry and research partners thus stand to gain innovative solution approaches to specific problems and issues.

T-Systems will support the winner in realising an innovation project, which could lead to a long-term partnership. In addition ESA may provide technical expertise and business development support at one of four ESA Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs).

The winner of the prize awarded by the European GNSS Supervisory Authority will have the opportunity to realise their idea at a suitable incubation centre of their choice within the EU27 for six months, with the option of an additional six months based on evaluation after the first period. Costs should not exceed €20,000 per six-month period. Eligibility criteria: Participants need to be EU27 residents/incorporated to be eligible for the special topic prize of the European GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA).

The European Space Agency (ESA) is looking for ideas that can be implemented immediately and quickly nurtured into a profitable business with the technical and financial assistance of an ESA business incubator. Along with this extensive support package, the winner will also receive a EUR 10,000 award.

The winner will receive a voucher for five man-months of DLR services (a EUR 50,000 value) in the further development of their idea, which may include feasibility studies, concept studies, and prototype or business development. The prize, therefore, leads to direct implementation.

The winner of the NAVTEQ special topic prize will receive:
  • A 12-month incubation programme that consists of one year of free access to NAVTEQ map data, content, and services
  • The incubation programme will assist the winner of the NAVTEQ special topic prize with coaching, technical and business development support, and web promotions through the NAVTEQ Network for Developers™ (NN4D).
  • A personal technical consultant will assist in seeing the winning idea through to successful implementation.
  • The opportunity to present the final application to NAVTEQ partners and customers, including leading handset manufacturers, platform and technology providers
  • The prize is worth in total approximately EUR 75,000.

Please note that additional rules apply for the NAVTEQ special topic prize and need to be accepted upon registration.

The Forum for Applied Satellite Navigation and Mobile IT Baden-Württemberg (SatNav MIT BW) will award a prize for security-related solutions for the transport and logistics sector.

The aim of the ESNC University Challenge is to support the foundation of a start-up company to realise the winning idea. KIS4SAT will provide 10 days of work with an individual coach to be selected by the winner from within the KIS4SAT consortium. In addition Awapatent AB will provide patent consulting worth EUR 8,000 aiming at filing a patent for the nominated idea. Furthermore the Universität der Bundeswehr München will sponsor a ticket to the Munich Satellite Navigation Summit 2011, worth EUR 650.
2nd prize: The Universität der Bundeswehr München will provide the first runner-up with a free ticket to the ESA International Summer School on GNSS 2011.
Please note that the ESNC University Challenge is explicitly targeted at students, scientific assistants and research associates seeking to realise their application ideas.

The GNSS Living Lab Prize will award three winners, who will get the opportunity to conduct
a "reality check trial" in a suitable Living Lab with the involvement of relevant user communities and potential future customers. The nominated innovators will thus benefit from the validation of their ideas, the user-oriented engineering of their products and services, the development of their entrepreneurial team and the intensification of their network of industrial relationships. In addition the three winners will receive prize money of EUR 10,000 each.
Please note that the prerequisite for participation in the GNSS Living Lab Prize is the availability of a prototype, product or service ready to be tested in a suitable Living Lab.
